CHRISTMAS

I thought well as I'm here I'll be posting a short blog!

WOOOOO it's the day before Christmas Eve and then it will be Christmas Day!

I'm looking forward to Christmas Eve. I love the preparation and the smell of food cooking it's always my favourite part of the whole christmas tide celebrations.
Our first relative popped over tonight my Cousin and his wife and they stayed for an hour. I would of thought they would have liked to have stayed longer but the weather here and our estate is pretty awful.

My Auntie and Uncle probably will come over tomorrow night and that should be nice but then the rest of the holidays we'll be alone just the five of us!

Can't wait.

Hope everyone has a lovely time. Hope you all eat loads, drink and be merry.

Time for a change....

Ok so today was the day I decided to be brave and finally join fan fiction. net. I'm a little worried no one will like my work or it will get completely eaten by other fan posts but I'm feeling as though it is time to spread my wings a bit and post my work elsewhere other than the forum. No one is reading my stuff of late so it's a little depressing.
I don't really know how I feel about opening myself out to other people as I'm used to only a few people commenting or appreciating my work so I guess this will be the time to see if I'm any good or not.
There is only one way to find out and maybe it will be successful and maybe it won't but I do believe I can give it a good try. *nods*
Anyway who ever reads this... give me a bit of a thought as I'll be posting a fiction there in two days so we'll see.

My Volunteering and why I love it...

Last year I joined a local volunteer group called Volunteer Reading Help. This charity works within schools providing support for children who need that extra help with their reading.
This charity doesn't just help with the reading side of learning but aiding the child's confidence to read out loud. Quite often a child will not have help from their home due to parents working and just needs that extra support. As well as that sometimes English is not the child's first language within the home and they often have to work that bit harder.
I attend a local school twice a week and have six children altogether that I work with. Each children receives half an hour reading support and that doesn't just involve reading books but working with games that include discussion as well as them contributing too.

Today I met some new volunteers and they asked me a few questions regarding my experiences as a volunteer as well as how I approach each session. What my thoughts were on my first day and how did I go about getting the children to take to me as their new volunteer etc.
I was nervous when I got there first because I am quite shy and talking to a lot of people and all of them strangers is quite difficult but as soon as I started talking I couldn't stop. I felt at ease discussing something that I am passionate about.
A lot of the women there in the room were surprised at how I was discussing volunteering and how excited and happy I was working there. One joked that I had been paid to speak about volunteering in such a positive manner but how could I say anything bad about a thing I am enjoying a lot?
The charity has been the first thing that has acknowledged me as a person and given me a chance to prove myself to myself and give me some confidence that I had lacked and was losing in myself.

Working with children and giving them confidence to pick up a book and read it by themselves is just so wonderful. You get so much satisfaction from seeing the transformation and hearing that the child has gone up a reading level in a reading comprehension test and you have been a part of that it’s wonderful.

I’ve always been a reader and I’ve never been without a book of some description within my life and I could never imagine not being able to enjoy reading or choosing a specific book. The reason I decided to join the charity was simply because I have so much enthusiasm about books and I hope that working with these youngsters I can make them love books as much as I do and always have.

The charity as I mentioned before was the first place to give me a chance because I’ve been so unfortunate in looking for work and I was starting to lose all faith.

The meeting today made me more aware of how much this group has given me as well as what it really does for children who receive this help within schools.

I just thought I would say this with anyone who reads it. I love my volunteering and I will always be grateful to help the school and the children I work with even if it’s only a small way I’ve at least given my time and my experience.

Writer's Block: Long ago and far away

Do you wish you had grown up in another time and/or place? if so, when, where, and why?

Sometimes I do sometimes I don't. I guess it's because I'd like to have experienced different things you know like in 1940s to see how my Grandmother coped especially with her working in the land army. That would of been interesting.
Probably the 60's too maybe. I honestly don't know.

Well do books count? I seem to collect those! I am an avid bookworm and if I really love an author I have to get everything by them lol

Writer's Block: Back pat

What are the three proudest moments of your life so far, and why?

Well I guess I was pretty pleased with the fact I graduated from University in English and History. I guess that was a big deal. I mean I'd worked so hard I probably could of worked harder but it's one of those things.
I also am proud that I passed my driving test when I did about I think four years ago and I had to work really hard at passing it because I'd taken numerous tests and my nerves got the better of me until I just got so annoyed at myself I went and passed the last one lol :D  Oh and when I've just recently become a volunteer for a charity called Volunteer Reading Help and I go into schools and listen to kids read and although it's not work exactly I've done all it by myself and now I feel as though I've worked hard and helped the kids and I'll continue to do so. I guess that's a thing to be proud of! Because there is nothing better than reading a book and I want to share that joy with others.

Writer's Block: Film therapy

Are there any movies you watch when you're feeling anxious or depressed? If so, what are they, and what about them calms you down and/or lifts your spirits?

I have to say when I feel down I go for the Disney films! I mean there is nothing better than a sweet film that has some laughs in it too. Sometimes though it does help to have a cry at times and they do tend to make me cry and I find it relieves a lot of stress!
